Foster Care
The Home: If your situation is such that you could enjoy having a dog in your life for a little while but do not want the long term commitment of owning one, then fostering a dog might me the answer for you. There is the huge problem in finding foster homes for the increasing number of Vizslas in need of rescues. There is a satisfaction of knowing you are the start of a new life for an animal in need.
Evaluation:
It must be noted that not every dog is a candidate for our rescue program. With help and direction from experienced club members you learn to evaluate a dogs temperament that is in you care. You will learn how to adjust certain behaviors it might have.
Medical:
You learn how to provide medical treatment for an animal in you care. Some animals come to us with medical problems.
On occasion, if you have transportation, you may need to take an animal in you care to one of our dedicated rescue veterinary offices.
Problems:
Once a dog reaches a foster home it sometimes becomes difficult for its care givers to give it up. For this reason we have lost many good foster homes. Once you've experienced a foster dogs through your home, you will realize the value you can provide to dogs in need. With each dog you foster it becomes less stressful for you when it leaves you home. Watching a dogs progress and seeing it go to a loving home is really your reward.
Remember too, there will soon be a needy replacement.
Help and Instructions: Not all Vizsla rescues come with behavior issues. Each animal has it own history. There are many factors we consider before accepting a dog into our rescue program and placing it into a foster home. We have experienced people in our club that help and instruct our foster home participants on how to correct minor behavior problems. We strive to place each dog into a foster home that has the resources and knowledge to deal with that particular animal .
