Foster Care
The Home: If you are in a situation where you could enjoy having a dog for a little while but do not want the long term commitment of owning one, then fostering a dog might me the answer for you. There is the huge problem in finding foster homes for the increasing number of Vizsla rescues. There is a satisfaction of knowing you are the start of a new life for an animal in need.
Evaluation:
It must be noted that not every dog is a candidate for our rescue program. With help and direction from experienced club members you learn to evaluate the dogs temperament that is in you care. You will learn how to adjust certain behaviors it might have.
Medical:
You learn how to detect and treat ailments an animal might have. Some animals come to us with medical problems. Some have such severe problems that we just can't afford to take on.
On occasion, if you have the resources, you may need to take the animal in you care to one of our rescue veterinary offices.
Problems:
Once a dog reaches a foster home it sometimes becomes difficult for its care givers to give it up. For this reason we have lost many good foster homes. If you can experience a few foster dogs through your home, you will realize the value you provide to dogs in need. With each dog you foster it becomes less stressful on you when it leaves you home. Watching a dogs progress and seeing it go to a loving home is really your reward.
Remember too, there will soon be a replacement in need.
Help and Instructions: Not all Vizsla rescues come with behavior issues. Each has it own history. There are many factors we consider before accepting a dog into our rescue program and placing it into a foster home. We have experienced people in our club that help and instruct our foster home people on how to correct minor behavior problems detected. We strive to place each dog into a foster home that has the resources and knowledge to deal with that particular dog.
